Resident Medications

Med Entry: Basic

Entering Resident Medications in ResiDex allows you to maintain an electronic record of each resident's medications, making either paper-based or E-Charting medications quick and easy.  Entering medications will also allow ResiDex to automatically pull medication lists into key reports.

This document outlines entry of a basic medication, but we also have documentation on how to:

Med Entry: As Needed

Entering As Needed or "PRN" Medications into a resident's medication list will allow users to track and document those administrations. As Needed medications can be charted through the EMAR system in RTasks.  They will also appear on numerous paper-based report options, including "Resident Current Medications," "As Needed Med Admin (incl. Response)," "As Needed Pain Med (incl. Response)," and many more.

Edit Med (Discontinue/Restart)

If a change in medication dosage, strength, frequency, or days is needed, you can easily make the necessary changes in ResiDex using the "Discontinue and Restart" button.  This entry option not only saves time, it also keeps a concise and accurate history of each medication.

Note: This option is done if the medication is CHANGING.  You do NOT need to use this option if the medication is being discontinued completely.  If a medication is being discontinued completely, please see our instructions on how to Discontinue Medications.

Medication on Hold

There are occasions when a resident medication may be placed on hold.  The 'hold' status may be for either a specified or unspecified length of time.

Discontinue Medication

If a medication is to be discontinued, you can easily record that change in ResiDex. ResiDex will handle not only entering the end DATE of the medication, but also the end TIME.

Why is this useful?

If a medication is given two or more times a day, the end time for the medication will allow you to specify which med times will be administered before being discontinued on the last day.

Reordering Meds in Desktop Residex

ResiDex offers the ability to enter and track medications to be reordered and generate a medication reorder form that can easily be faxed to the pharmacy. The medications are grouped by pharmacy and then by resident.

Med Entry: Med Set

Medication Sets in ResiDex will allow you to create one or more "groups" or "sets" of medications that can quickly be entered for any resident.  Once the medication sets have been created a user can use the "Med Set" option to quickly enter the group of medications.

RTasks Med Entry and Management

If your campus uses Emars and your configurations are set up to allow RTasks Medications you will have the ability to add or edit medications directly from RTasks.  This allows convenient access to update any medication from any device.

The "Medications" option is under the "Residents" tab in RTasks.
