RTasks Med Entry with Structured Med Instructions

If your campus uses Emars and your configurations are set up to allow RTasks Medications you will have the ability to add or edit medications directly from RTasks.  This allows convenient access to update any medication from any device.

The "Medications" option is under the "Residents" tab in RTasks.

Add a New Med in RTasks:

  • From the Residents/Clients List - select a resident
  • Click on the Medications option

  • The Current Medications by default will be displayed
  • Click the "Add a New Medication" option

  • Select or enter the information in each field

  1. Start typing the med name - med suggestions will appear. Click on the medication when it appears or continue typing to add a new medication to the list
  2. Enter the strength to be given
  3. Select the route from the option list
  4. Toggle between Scheduled or PRN (Selecting PRN will display different options on the med entry screen)
  5. Enter indications or click the "Diagnoses" option to select an item related to this medication
  6. Enter the date this medication will be first administered
  7. Enter the start time - The med will be given at the next administration time AFTER this start time
  8. Enter the stop date (Optional)
  9. Enter the stop time (Optional) if no time is filled it the medication will be ended at 11:59 PM on the end date
  10. Select the days the medication will be given
  11. Select if you want to use simplified (AM, PM, Overnight) or standard (8:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 6:00 PM) times
  12. Enter the medication time to administer the medication
  13. Select the provider who will administer the medication
  14. If the medications is given more than one time per day use the "Add new time" option to enter the additional time
  15. Select who will setup the medications
  16. Select who will administer the medications (Note: Family and Self will NOT display on the EMars)
  17. Select a "Note required" option (Optional)
  18. Select this option if the Staff administering the medication needs to verify the medication before administering
  19. Check this box if the medication is a "Standing Order" medication
  20. If the medication is controlled check this box (Note: it will update every resident on that medication as having a "controlled" medication)
  21. If this medication does not need to be seen on electronic med charting - click "Hide on E-Mar".  It will only hide for this resident's medication
  22. Check this box if the medication can be crushed for this resident
  23. Select an Action such as administer, give, inject, etc
  24. Select the dose such as 1, 2, 3, etc
  25. Select the from such as tablet, drop, patch, etc
  26. Select the frequency (once, twice, 3 times, etc)
  27. Select the schedule (daily, weekly, monthly)
  28. By selecting items in boxes 23-27 the instructions will automatically display
  29. Add additional MAR lines (optionally - this is for use with PAPER MARS)
  30. Select the Pharmacy who fills the medication (Displays the resident Pharmacy)
  31. Enter the Rx number for the medication
  32. Enter the Physician who ordered the medication (Displays the resident's health providers)
  33. Press Save to save the information entered or Back to close without saving

NOTE: When using the structured instructions option, once all the boxes are selected (filled in) the med instructions field is now editable.  You will see the information from the selected boxes displayed in the instructions but you can now add additional details as needed.


Enter an As Needed Medication:

  • Follow the instructions above
  • The key difference is when scheduling the med you specify "Every X hours" or "X times per day"

Editing Med Days, Time and Other Information:

  • Open the RTasks Medication Option for a Resident
  • You will be on the "Current Medication" tab - click on any medication

  1. Select Back to close the screen and make no changes
  2. Select Edit to edit details such as Strength, Route, Indications, Setup, Administered Info, Notes, Instructions, etc.
  3. Select Reschedule to edit the Med times, Providers or Days
  4. Select Discontinue to discontinue the med now or in the future and enter a reason
